Britney Spears Music
Britney Spears arrived in the late 1990s with a smash hit called “Baby One More Time.” This single shot to the number one slot in the charts and became the single that would catapult her to fame and stardom.
After the success of her first album, Britney Spears became the country’s (and eventually the world’s) phenomenal pop star. With her amazing performing abilities, Spears has enchanted the world through her eye-candy outfits and videos.
Despite criticisms about her ability to “really sing” Spears proved to be the music artist to beat. Her initial success in the music industry paved the way for the emergence of other female artists like Christina Aguilera, Jessica Simpson, and Pink to name a few. But she remained on top for the years to come.
To date, she has released six albums; most of them were highly successful. Let’s take a look at them.
…Baby One More Time (1999)
After her two-season stint in the Mickey Mouse Club, she proceeded to record her first single, “Baby One More Time,” which was an instant hit. The single’s success led to the release of her first album, with the same name, and was also greatly received by people all over the world. The album stayed at the number one spot for six weeks. From this came other hits like “(You Drive Me) Crazy,” (became the soundtrack to a film top-billed by Melissa Joan Hart) “Sometimes,” “From the Bottom of My Broken Heart.”
Her MTV Music Awards performance with NSync featuring songs from this album was a huge success.
Oops!…I Did It Again (2000)
The following year, Spears did it again. She released another successful album, which was more focused on her sex appeal. The videos for her hits like “…Oops! I Did It Again” showed how her innocent appeal comes off as very sexy, much of it is attributed to her sexy dance moves. The title track was a smash hit, landing at number one in the charts, and became a pop classic.
That same year, she performed again at the VMAs solo wearing a tux that she eventually stripped off to reveal a flesh-toned outfit while gyrating to a remixed version of “…Oops!” other hits from this album are “Satisfaction” and “Lucky.”
Britney (2001)
Her third album to hit the top of the charts again, Britney showed Spears’ attempt at a more mature sound. Much of the pains she’s experiencing as an artist growing up are evident here. But despite being at number one, this album did not yield any top 10 singles. However, you can see her efforts to make more serious, artistic decisions were evident in tracks like “I’m A Slave 4 U” and “Overprotected.”
In the Zone (2003)
This is her fourth number one album and gave her first top 10 single after quite a while. It featured collaborations with Madonna and R. Kelly. “Toxic” and “Me Against the Music” were included here.
Greatest Hits: My Prerogative (2004)
Featured her greatest hits plus a few new songs including her version of Bobby Brown’s “My Prerogative.” This album was less memorable compared to the first three.
Blackout (2007)
This was her most unsuccessful album to date.
Circus (2008)
Marked Britney’s possibly successful comeback as evidenced by tracks like “Womanizer” (her first number one single after a decade) and “Circus.”
