Is It One More Time For Britney Spears?

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

Britney Spears can be considered as one of the most influential and controversial music artists of all time. She can be very well the female version of Michael Jackson.

Let me borrow a quote from the acerbic judge of American Idol Simon Cowell—to be brutally honest, it’s a pity what this once-highly-revered female pop superstar has become. I can still remember several years ago when Britney Spears music made a big splash in the pop scene.

Her school-girl image, oozing with the ironical mix of innocence and sex appeal, in the music video “…Baby One More Time” was a sight to behold. She instantly captured the whole world’s attention. It’s no question how far she has come in such a short period of time. She quickly became a music goddess.

But just like every good things, it was never meant to last. Whether it was because of the pressures of fame or her own attitude towards her success, if she let everything go to her head or not, her spark ran out as quickly as she rose to fame.

She was a media favorite. Everything she does got in the news; she made headlines. America was all about Britney.

Then she tumbled. Starting with her break up with Justin Timberlake, things took a really hard turn for the superstar. To the rumored wedding with some guy she knew from her past, to her marriage with Kevin Federline, and to her being a mother, everything was scrutinized.

I used to remember before, the negative only criticisms I’ve heard about her were her lip synching and her boob job. Now, everything bad you can imagine has been thrown at her. Not that we blame the media about her portrayal, she was responsible for her actions, anyway.

We’ve seen her shave her head, get drunk, had a divorce, get out of a car without underwear, and even perform at the VMAs looking like crap. It was a pity. But I think, it’s sadder to see her plummet down from the pedestal she used to enjoy in her younger years.

But if there is one thing you cannot ignore, it’s the fact that she has remained, all these years, despite all the negative publicity about her, famous.

Despite being away from the studio, shows, and concerts, people have always had a taste of Britney: bald Britney, drunk Britney, and sexy Britney. And maybe that is why we have always anticipated for her comeback. I know I am because I am a Britney fan.
Her talent is undeniable.

She has always earned the respect of her colleagues when it comes to her music. She was, and will always be an excellent performer. No one dances like Britney Spears does. Take away all the crap she’s been involved with, I’m pretty sure, she will always be remembered as a best-selling, extremely popular and talented performer.
